Learning Days
A Learning Day is a gemba visit at a member’s site: the plant tour, the daily management board, the problem-solving cases, and an honest conversation about what did not work. Not yet running: we are designing the format with members and will build the first one with the first host.
Host or attend a Learning Day
Offer your site, or ask to be told when one is scheduled near you.
What a Learning Day is
A gemba visit: half a day at a site that runs an improvement system
Gemba is the Japanese word for the real place where work happens; the Lean Enterprise Institute’s lexicon explains the idea well. A gemba visit with peers shows you a working improvement system rather than slides about one.
Fees
Fees by region
Per visitor, for one Learning Day. The fee covers the plant visit only. Participants make their own arrangements for travel, stay and anything else they need. In India, 18% GST is added. Outside India, local taxes are added where they apply.
| Region | Members | Non-members |
|---|---|---|
| India | INR 8,000 | INR 10,000 |
| Gulf | USD 400 | USD 500 |
| Southeast Asia | USD 320 | USD 400 |
| Europe and elsewhere | USD 480 | USD 600 |
How it will work
Three steps for a host
This is the intended format. The first Learning Day will be built with the first host, and the format adjusted from what we learn.
Offer your site
Any member organization with a running improvement system can host: a plant, a warehouse, a hospital wing, a shared-services floor.
We design it with you
World Opex visits the site, agrees the tour route, two or three cases with their numbers, the questions you want challenged, and the confidentiality rules.
Host, then share
Hosts receive a written summary of the visit and the questions raised, and the visit counts as evidence of an open improvement culture in an awards entry.
