What is Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance (JIPM)?

The Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance is a public interest association in Tokyo whose roots go back to a plant maintenance committee formed in 1961 within the Japan Management Association. It proposed Total Productive Maintenance in 1971, defined the TPM twelve-step deployment program and the eight pillars, and runs the TPM Awards that recognize plants worldwide. JIPM organizes seminars, conferences and plant visits, publishes research, and operates national certification schemes for autonomous and planned maintenance specialists. Through its associate agency program it works with partner organizations in India, the United Kingdom, South Korea, Thailand, Taiwan and Germany to spread TPM practice.
